2007 Region 5 Champions!!

2007 State Champions!!

The 2006-2007 General McLane Boys Basketball season officially opened December 1st with some noticeable differences. The Lancers participated in the Fairview Tip-Off Tournament this year and due to another round of realignment, they are part of Region 5. However, one similarity remained as General McLane entered the 2006-2007 season. When the team faced Girard in the first game of the tip-off tournament it was with a shortened roster due to the continuation of the Lancer Football Team's Championship run into the PIAA Playoffs. Four probable starters and 8 varsity players played football as the Lancers "tip-off" the basketball season.

Again this season, the Lancers are without significant height in the center position although strength and experience will play a key role in the success of this team. They will, in what has become tradition, rely on their tenacious trademark defense and speed to guide them through the competitive Region 5 schedule. Along with their regular region schedule, the Lancers also play in a number of independent contests with perennial powerhouses such as Cathedral Prep, Franklin and George Junior.

With 3 returning all-region starters and a host of player with extensive varsity minutes, the Lancers are looking to play well beyond the regular season. Handling the point guard duties and anchoring the back court again this season is Bob Stauffer; Times News all-district 10 player last year and arguably the best guard in the area. Helping Stauffer handle the ball will be all-region player Drew Astorino; Shawn Walker (all-region) will divide his time between the forward and center positions when needed and Kelley Ponsoll will cover the wings. The center position is up for grabs, with several experienced players as well as newcomer, Bryan Lowther looking to contribute. This year the Lancers have the luxury of a deep bench with varsity experience in several positions which should help them compete and contend in the 2006-2007 basketball season.
